what are the dimensions of a tile? say I wanted to build a 14x12 foot room, would that be 14 tiles x 12 tiles, or is each tile 3 feet square, or something like that? I want to start building, but haven't found any information regarding the dimensions

There isn't really a conversion between feet/meters into simtiles.

So, use whatever conversion you want. 1 foot= 2 simtiles, etc.

There's indeed no established conversion factor. But from a practical point of view a tile comes closest to about 1 meter or about 3 feet. I use 1 meter, it's the easiest for me, if you're used to feet I'd say: 3 feet a tile.
So a 14 x 12 foot room equals a 5 x 4 tile room.
